Robert Kubica is set to take part in the fifth round of the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Portugal, behind the wheel of a new Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
Having missed the last round in Argentina to focus on restructuring his squad, RK World Rally Team, the 2013 WRC 2 World Champion is set to get back into action in Portugal. The Pole will be one of the five drivers to use the new evolution of Ford Fiesta RS WRC with M-Sport assisting the RK WRT during the event.
After over a decade in the southern region of Algarve, Rally Portugal – the first gravel event of the european part of the season – is set to return to its traditional northern base near Porto, with the famous Fafe stage being one of the highlights. Two years ago Kubica took part in the short Fafe Rally Sprint event there but most of this weekend’s route will be completely new to the Polish driver.
Robert Kubica “We’ve missed Rally Argentina to focus on reorganising our team but having made a promise to the fans, we’re coming back on the WRC stages together with my co-driver Maciek. We’ll take part in Rally Portugal in a completely new car. Unfortunately, having worked on reorganising the squad, we haven’t had the time to test the Fiesta, so we’re set for a busy weekend. We’ll be learning both the new car as well as the new stages.
Rally Portugal returns to the north. It’s a new challenge as Fafe is the only stage I know. It’s a great test with a superb atmosphere created by the huge amount of fans. In Portugal the RK World Rally Team will work together with M-Sport, which prepared the new Fiestas. However we’re continuously working on developing our squad. We’ve taken full advantage of the recent weeks and we’re heading in the right direction. I’d like to thank all the fans for the huge support we’ve received recently.”
